Aftertaste Digital Booklet
The Bronx, New York
Aftertaste was thought of in February ‘19 —after having explored a bunch of new eateries together. The experience of getting to know one another over lush flavors expanded our love for each other. In turn, Travis chopped up a soundtrack to accompany our lives at the time & I shot the visuals shortly after.
Creating the artwork for this project was equally liberating & heartbreaking. I designed the album cover during the saddest moment of my life. After a year of hospital admissions, my grandmothers health was on a lethal decline & she passed away the day Aftertaste was released. Having the album as a creative outlet helped me cope with the reality that the matriarch of my family was no longer with us. I froze that pain & created a time capsule to represent it.
I later decided to redesign the album cover. It was like revisiting the time that I held my grandmothers hand & spent my final moments with her. The new cover represents a reopening & final goodbye to a mournful memory. Amongst all that music is to me, it is a diary most of all. The sounds & visuals of Aftertaste reflect that meaning.
When we started this project we didn’t imagine it would take us on a year long journey but I am so grateful that it did. This series culminates the love & tragedy that 2019 brought to our personal lives. The evolution of it all represents the paradox that is life. Life takes its time & in the same breath, happens in an instant.
